Boone County Judge-Executive Gary Moore has won the election for National Association of Counties (NACo) second vice president.

The election was held at the NACo Annual Conference Monday, July 16 at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. Next year, Moore will be NACo first vice president, and he will be sworn in as NACo president in July 2020.
The president of NACo is the lead advocate for county government in the United States. Moore will serve as the liaison between the nation’s 3,069 counties and all other levels of government in order to improve, advance and enrich the future of counties.
Moore’s passion for county government began at an early age.
“I grew up in a county courthouse watching my dad serve the people as county sheriff,” Moore says. “When I was elected Boone County judge-executive 20 years ago, that fulfilled my childhood dream. However, being elected second vice president of the nation’s 3,069 counties today is something I could have never imagined.”
Moore will serve his office term for NACo while in his current role as Boone County judge-executive. The exposure to national objectives and solutions will help Kentucky counties.
“This position puts Boone County and the entire state of Kentucky at an advantage to learn and benefit from the most innovative ideas from around the nation,” Moore says.
The last Kentuckian to become NACo president was Kenton County Judge-Executive Bob Aldemeyer in 1984.
The Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) is a non-profit organization, based in Frankfort, Kentucky, whose members include elected county officials in the state. Since its creation in 1974, KACo has represented the needs of county government, providing the highest quality programs and services to counties, such as insurance, financing services and legislative solutions.
