Ride Cincinnati paints town orange this weekend; will light buildings for National Cancer Survivors Day

The Great American Tower, the Duke Energy Center CINCINNATI sign and JACK Casino are turning orange this weekend for one very special reason.

Sunday, June 3 is National Cancer Survivors day, and to honor those Greater Cincinnatians who have tackled this disease head-on, organizations across the city are saluting them with a display of orange – the official color of Ride Cincinnati.

One in three women and one in two men in Greater Cincinnati will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Such high prevalence means that nearly everyone in the region will be affected by this disease, a stark reminder of the urgent need for life-saving cancer research and top-notch cancer care.

Through its outreach efforts, Ride Cincinnati, the annual cycling event supporting the UC Health Barrett Cancer Center, is calling on both cyclists and non-cyclists to unite and help develop the region into a leader in world-class cancer research, education and care.

The Ride, which is happening June 9-10, 2018, has set a goal to raise more than $500,000 for cancer research this year while laying the foundation for millions more in the year ahead. This is part of a larger, community-wide effort to bring the coveted and much-needed National Cancer Institute designation to Cincinnati.

Established in 2007, Ride Cincinnati is an annual cycling event held in June at Yeatman’s Cove. Funds raised through Ride Cincinnati benefit cancer research at the Barrett Cancer Center at the UC Cancer Institute. To date, the ride has raised more than $2.8 million.
