Northern Kentucky University’s W. Frank Steely Library will host a free workshop for librarians and teachers. “Promoting What Matters: An Advocacy Workshop” will be held on July 10 as part of the library’s After School Special series.

The annual event brings preschool through12th grade librarians and educators together to discuss issues impacting the 21st century information environment. The workshop will explore topics including advocating for information literacy and securing resources for your school/library. There will also be networking and professional development opportunities.

“Advocacy is more important than ever. Students need to learn skills related to analysis, inquiry, and making sense of information, but budget cuts continue to impact librarians and educators across the state,” said Andrea Brooks, Steely librarian and event facilitator. “Our workshop will focus on creating a positive, meaningful message, connecting with key legislators and school administrators, and understanding the major issues at the local, state, and national level.”
