The Urology Group launches innovative collaboration with Cancer Support Community to help patients

The Urology Group has launched an innovative collaboration with the Cancer Support Community of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky (CSC).

This proactive step makes The Urology Group the Tri-State’s first urological practice to team up with CSC to provide free, professionally led emotional and social support services to prostate cancer patients.

As a result of this collaboration, The Urology Group’s newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients and their families will be connected to CSC for emotional counseling, educational resources, and decision-making support.

CSC is the largest professionally led nonprofit network of cancer support worldwide that provides free services to the community at large. Its research shows that 92% of people attending cancer counseling programs reported increased feelings of hope; 97% reported connections with others and feel less alone, and 83% said they developed a new attitude towards their illness.

“The opportunity to offer in-depth counseling services to patients with newly diagnosed prostate cancer is a prime example of our unceasing efforts to improve the care we provide,” said Dr. Gary M. Kirsh, president of The Urology Group.

As a first step in the collaboration, newly diagnosed patients will be asked to complete surveys regarding their physical and emotional health. Based on individual patient responses, CSC will offer specific services to serve their needs.

“Our philosophy combines the will of the patient with the skill of the physician, and that’s a powerful combination,” said Michelle Johnson, president of CSC of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

The Urology Group is one of the largest single specialty groups of urologists in the United States, with 39 physicians on staff.

Cancer Support Community Greater Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky is part of a global cancer support network with more than 150 locations worldwide and is dedicated to the mission of ensuring that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.
