Volunteer NKY, focused on people helping people, schedules sign-up fair at St. Elizabeth Edgewood

The first Volunteer NKY Connect event for 2018 is a volunteer fair at St Elizabeth Healthcare March 14, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

It will take place at the St. Elizabeth Edgewood hospital at 1 Medical Village Drive in conference rooms L and M.  Free parking is provided in the Visitor lot.

The event will engage 20 local organizations seeking volunteers.

Social services volunteerism is about adding capability to the hundreds of local organizations that support people who are struggling in life.  Poverty, hunger, recovery, abuse, illness and unemployment are but some of the many causes you can find as a volunteer.

This marks the fourth year of the Volunteer NKY movement.   A group of volunteer-passionate people from across Northern Kentucky came together in the Fall of 2015 to consider how to systemically influence social service volunteerism.

The team’s goal was to enhance the good work already done by individual local organizations.  The outcome was the development of a volunteer engagement vision and strategy.

The Volunteer NKY vision:

  • Build a more vibrant and engaged NKY by easily connecting people of all ages and all walks of life with opportunities to serve.
  • We are all in it together, everyone makes the world a better place in their own unique way.
  • People volunteer to their purpose, passion and potential.

The work has evolved from planning to action.  An extensive toolbox is available for volunteers and volunteer leaders.

For volunteers, a “development playbook” and a process to link skilled volunteers with organizational needs has been developed. Its Facebook page provides updated local volunteer opportunities and shares stories of volunteerism in action.  For professionals, a volunteer vision workshop and best practices tool have been developed.

Volunteer fairs bring together about 20 local organizations that need volunteers with the community.  Individuals can browse the tables and learn about the many service possibilities.  Two additional volunteer fairs are planned in 2018.

Volunteer NKY is sponsored by the Life Solutions Network.  It is a volunteer-driven network founded by Tony Aloise for volunteers and social service professionals who choose to serve our community by building the capability of people in need.

Aloise, a retiree who has a passion to encourage life skills-based volunteerism, said the network seeks to support others to “live, work and serve to our purpose, passion and potential”.

Local organizations contributing to the Volunteer NKY planning including Brighton Center, Welcome House, Mentoring Plus, Life Learning Center and Women’s Crisis Center.
