Scott, Campbell County will meet again in 10th Region boys final after dramatic semifinal wins

Campbell County and Scott will meet again in the championship game of the 10th Region boys basketball tournament at at 7 p.m. Tuesday after both teams won thrillers in the semifinal round on Monday at Mason County Fieldhouse.

Campbell County (27-5) defeated Clark County, 76-72, in overtime with the Camels scoring 11 of their 13 points at the free throw line during the extra period. In the second game, Scott (23-9) outscored Paris, 17-2, in the fourth quarter to come away with a 46-43 victory.

That sets up a rematch of last year’s regional final that Scott won, 78-77, on a 3-point shot by Jake Ohmer just before the final horn sounded. This season, Campbell County has a 2-0 record against Scott, including a 58-57 win in the 37th District final.

Campbell County senior guard Joel Day made seven free throws in the overtime period to finish with a game-high 31 points in the win over Clark County. The Camels’ other double-figures scorers were Reid Jolly with 17, Drew Wilson with 12 and Tanner Clos with 10.

Scott made nine 3-point shots to account for more than half of its scoring total in the win over Paris. The Eagles opened the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run that was fueled by four treys. The Eagles’ leading scorers were senior Nelson Perrin with 13 points and junior Kyren Simpson with 11. Together, they made seven of their team’s nine 3-pointers.
