Bridge engineers and consultants have been out to take measurements for the needed repairs.

One of the primary vertical members of the Roebling Bridge was struck by a vehicle late Tuesday night. The impact distorted and cracked the vertical member.

This section was added to the Roebling Bridge in the late 1890’s by Wilhelm Hildebrand to help strengthen the original structure.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is in the process of completing an analysis to determine needed repairs to the historic landmark. At this time, engineers with KYTC and consultants are working together to identify next steps to have the bridge up and operational as quickly as possible.

A timeline to complete the repairs has not been established.

Precautionary measures are necessary to restrict unauthorized access to portions of the bridge not open to pedestrians and to ensure the safety of the public. This restriction will remain in place until repairs are made.

Motorists and pedestrians can use the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge in Covington and the Taylor Southgate Bride in Newport.

How many more words would have been needed to clarify which pedestrian areas of Roebling Bridge remain open?

    • Judy Clabes says:

The story says all pedestrian areas are closed, based on the KYCT information. Is that incorrect? We will use however many words we need for clarity. But other information — including from Smoke Justis about its Roebling Bridge opening day party says a bus shuttle will be available to get people to the ballpark.
