Doug Pelfrey named Team Kenton Foundation’s first Outstanding Kenton County Graduate


Doug Pelfrey, an alumnus of Scott High School in 1988 and a lifelong Northern Kentucky resident and charitable leader, shines as a product of Kenton County Schools.

Team Kenton Foundation will honor him as its inaugural winner of the Outstanding Kenton County Graduate Award at an event to be held April 26 at the Newport Aquarium.

As a man who supports local kids, local schools, the local community, the entire region, and his church, he models behavior worthy of emulation.

A scholarship baseball player who chose to “walk on” in football, Doug has always been a “hometown guy” who starred at the University of Kentucky. He graduated as the 2nd All-time leading scorer in school history. Doug drilled two game-winning kicks in the final moments of the game during his career and blasted the five longest field goals in UK history.

Prior to his business career Doug was a professional kicker for the Cincinnati Bengals for seven years. As a NFL player Doug set several records for both the Bengals and the NFL, including setting the mark as the most accurate kicker in NFL history. He retired as the 2nd All-time leading scorer in Bengals’ history and kicked six-game winning FG’s in the final seconds or in overtime.

Pelfrey has a unique position as a philanthropist and entrepreneur showing his leadership through several non-profit organizations and impactful programs. His passion to serve the community and his vision for helping other leaders succeed is unprecedented.

During his time with the Bengals, Pelfrey founded Kicks for Kids to help at-risk children. KFK has directly helped over 50,000 kids in the Greater Cincinnati area and given away over $2 million. Through Doug’s vision, Kicks for Kids continues today to be recognized as one of the most successful non-profit organizations in professional sports. He also launched other charity organizations as well as his company to support other professional athletes with their charitable endeavors.

Through his charitable efforts Pelfrey was the recipient of the NFLPA’s Byron ‘Whizzer” White award in 2000 for his contribution to team, community and country. He was also nominated as the Bengals Man of the Year all seven years that he played for the Bengals.

Pelfrey was elected to the Regents SEC Hall of Fame for his excellence in business and received the Cincinnati Humanitarian award for his commitment to philanthropy.

Doug Pelfrey owns a local real estate company called Blue Tide Partners that works by helping first-time home owners purchase their home. He also serves as President/CEO of the Propel Company where has worked with professional athletes, client events, charities and corporate partnerships for over 20 years.

Pelfrey has managed the business development for more than 25 professional athletes as well as several Fortune 500 companies to help charitable programs across the United States and around the world. The primary programs that Doug supports are Nourish to Flourish, the Locker Program, Harvest Edge and several Service-Learning programs for middle school and high school students.
