BIRCUS Brewing Co. honors Susan B. Anthony, leader of Temperance movement, on Valentines Day

The BIRCUS Brewing Co. celebrated women on Valentine’s Day by honoring the birth of Susan B. Anthony.

Anthony was most known for her work fighting to allow women’s voting rights, the abolition of slavery, and the temperance movement; which BIRCUS has decided to forgive in light of her other, nation-changing, accomplishments.

Over the past several months, BIRCUS has become known for “One for All Wednesday,” a weekly event in which local non-profits benefit from each beer sold that evening. Beginning with February, the second Wednesday of each month of 2018 will be dedicated to non-profit groups benefiting women.

“BIRCUS Brewing Co. and its sister company Circus Mojo are businesses built on the shoulders of many dynamic women, without whom BIRCUS would not be brewing and thriving,” said Paul Miller, Chief Goof Officer of Bircus Brewing Company. “To celebrate these and all women we will be launching “One for All Wednesday” for women’s interests, to take place on the second Wednesday of each month. It seemed only natural to kick off the first one by honoring Susan B. Anthony’s birthday, which is the Thursday after our first One for All Wednesday supporting women.”

One dollar of each sale will be donated to the chosen non-profit, each woman will also receive an additional twenty percent off her beer until close. The twenty percent discount was chosen to highlight the wage discrepancy that still exists within too many industries today.

“Early in the planning of BIRCUS Brewing Co., the company recognized that many craft breweries seem to be a ‘boys club’ and we wanted to make sure that our company culture did not solely play to men,” Miller said. “So we called together a focus group for women and led by women.”

BIRCUS partnered with local Ludlow boutique, Leeta Ruth to promote the focus group opportunity. Interest was so great that two focus groups were held to determine what would make women want to come to BIRCUS and what would make them return.

Based on the findings of the focus group and the skill of the BIRCUS brewer, Comic Walrus was created. The Comic Walrus is a cranberry and ginger infused American Ale and is the second highest seller in the BIRCUS Brewing Co. tasting room. Tasting room hours Wednesday-Sunday 4-9PM Saturday Noon -11PM.

BIRCUS Brewing Co. will be accepting submissions for area non-profit groups to be highlighted; suggestions can be sent to info@bircus.com.

Ms. Anthony was known for having said that each woman must have a purse of her own, the ability to control her financial future.  BIRCUS Brewing Co. has sold 397 of 500 units so the opportunity to add to a “purse of your own” is fleeting.
