One glance at the Simon Kenton High School boys’ basketball record book reveals Jeff Krohman is the greatest scorer in the program’s history.
The sharpshooting guard poured in 2,181 career points from 1991-95 and parlayed that success into a scholarship to Division II powerhouse Kentucky Wesleyan.
But Jeff is no longer the most noteworthy athlete in the Krohman family.
That distinction now belongs to his daughter, Macy Krohman, a freshman at Simon Kenton and one of the nation’s top softball recruits.
Softball standout Macy Krohman will attend Illinois.
The 14-year-old softball prodigy will not have to endure the recruiting nightmares that many athletes encounter, though. That’s because Macy Krohman has accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois, where she will continue her career after graduating from Simon Kenton in 2021.
Still too young to obtain a driver’s license, Macy Krohman has already navigated through the recruiting process and landed a scholarship from a prestigious Big Ten school.
Her father is more than impressed and glad to relinquish his title of most prominent athlete in the family.
“This is truly a result of hard work, sacrifice and trusting the process,” Jeff Krohman said of his daughter’s commitment to Illinois. “Not only is Illinois a fantastic educational opportunity, Coach (Tyra) Perry has created a great culture — one that is not only about winning softball games, but also about developing her girls into successful women.”
Macy Krohman plays travel ball for the Beverly Bandits, a fastpitch organization based in Chicago and considered one of the best in the country. She is ranked as the 30th best player in the country for the Class of 2021 and has started varsity softball for Simon Kenton since the 5th grade.
The younger Krohman has already set multiple records for Simon Kenton, among them career walks and home runs in a season. She has also earned 8th Region all-star honors and is the two-time district most valuable player.
And she still has four years to accumulate more honors, both as a hitter and pitcher (she has more than 30 career wins in the circle).
Jeff Krohman said he and his wife, Katie, are thrilled with the college choice and can now concentrate on watching their daughter excel in the classroom (4.00 GPA) and softball field.
“Katie and I couldn’t be more proud of Macy on her commitment to Illinois,” he said.
His daughter said Illinois was the best fit, and she’s happy to have made an early decision.
“I’ve been on a lot of campuses and spoke with a lot of coaches,” Macy Krohman said. “Everything was right with Illinois. The thought of me playing in the Big 10 with a Top 25 program is amazing and drives me to get better every day.”
