Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky honors top achievers at annual awards celebration


The Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky (BIA) presented its annual awards at a ceremony held recently at Summit Hills Country Club. 

“As we enter 2018 we look back at the achievements that our members contribute to our organization and recognize a select few who stand out,” said Brian Miller, Executive Vice President of the construction trade organization.  “This year’s award winners exemplify excellence in service and have aided our mission in many ways.  We are grateful to have them as leaders in our industry and partners in our efforts,” he concluded.
 
Donald M. Wiedeman Lifetime Achievement Award   

2018 BIA President, John Curtin, Paul Hemmer Company, presents the Donald M. Wiedeman Lifetime Achievement Award to John Toebben, Toebben Builders.  Still active after 20 years of service and a Past President of the association and its Land Development Council, Toebben has served on or chaired practically every committee or council of the association available for a Registered Builder.  His contributions toward the advocacy services of the association span multiple decades and have shaped the landscape of Northern Kentucky development.
 
Builder of the Year 

     
 
2017 BIA President Bill Cullen, Cullen Brothers, presented the 2017 Builder of the Year Award to John Curtin, Paul Hemmer Company.  Curtin exemplified leadership and outstanding contributions to the association in 2017.  He has led the Commercial Council from a mere concept of a handful of commercial builder/developers to a vibrant group of construction professionals that advocate for the industry as well as create opportunities for support companies to connect with their customers.  Mr. Curtin engaged membership recruitment and retention in 2017 that have benefited the organization greatly. 
 
Associate of the Year 


 
2017 BIA Associate President, Pat Parshall (left), Northwest Title, presented the 2017 Associate of the Year to Mike Eubanks, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. Eubanks has served the association for over 20 years.  He has served or chaired nearly every committee an associate member can within the organization and has served as Sales & Marketing Council Past President as well as having served on the BIA Board of Directors.  In 2017 he continued his dedication by leading efforts to produce quality business to business events for members to connect with their customers. 
 
Janis Beard Annual Membership Award     
 

2017 BIA President Bill Cullen, Cullen Brothers, and Janis Beard (center) presented the Janis Beard Annual Membership Award to Pat Parshall, 2017 BIA Associate President, Northwest Title.  This award named after Ms. Beard to recognize her 27 years of staff service at the organization is bestowed upon an individual for outstanding efforts in membership recruitment and retention.  Mr. Parshall was the association’s top recruiter in 2017 and has contributed to innovate the ways the association recruits and retains its members. 
 
Community Service Award  
 

Walt Dunlevy, State & Local Government Committee Chairman, Forge Lumber, presented the Community Service Award to Dr. Randy Poe, Superintendent, Boone County Schools. Poe’s partnership has aided the BIA’s Enzweiler Building Institute to start a High School Introduction to Construction Trades program; garnering national acclaim as the program was awarded an Association Excellence Award for Best Workforce Development Program.  Also, with Dr. Poe’s assistance the association’s Enzweiler Building Institute was awarded a $2.69 million Work Ready Skills Initiative grant that will increase capacity for construction trades training for both High School students and adults.
