Chamber Small Business Academy offers seminars on sexual harassment, active shooter in workplace


The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Small Business Academy is offering several classes for employers in the new year.

Events scheduled in January include:

Sexual Harassment in the Workplace

On Wednesday, January 10, the Small Business Academy is hosting a seminar on sexual harassment in the workplace.

Presented by DBL Law Partners Bob Hoffer and Kelly Schoening Holden, the seminar will discuss the current business climate as it relates to sexual harassment. Employers are particularly vulnerable as claims surface, and companies must be prepared. Hoffer and Schoening Holden will cover the topics including:

  • Why companies need a comprehensive harassment policy
  • What a harassment policy should say
  • Why distribution of the policy and training is vital to a good defense
  • How to handle an investigation
  • Documentation surrounding the investigation
  • Confidentiality concerns
  • Retaliation
  • How to promote a workplace of civility and respect

The Sexual Harassment in the Workplace seminar takes place from 8a.m. to 9 a.m., at VonLehman & Company, Inc. (810 Wrights Summit Parkway Suite 300, Ft. Wright, KY).

Active Shooter in the Workplace

On Tuesday, January 16, the Small Business Academy will host a training on handling active shooters in the workplace.

Led by Mike Coltrane and David Powell, former officers in the military now with Strategic HR Inc., the training will discuss:

  • Recent active shooter events
  • Law enforcement and first responders response scenarios
  • Tools to help in the moment
  • Metaphysical changes during an active shooter event
  • Understanding your surroundings

“When there is an emergency, it is crucial to already have a comprehensive plan for the safety of your employees in place,” said Debby Shipp, Vice President, Business Growth & International Trade at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

The Active Shooter in the Workplace training will run from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30am, and will take place at the Sullivan University Center of Learning (207 Grandview Drive, Ft. Mitchell, KY).

Registration for each event is $20 for NKY Chamber members, $30 for future NKY Chamber members, and is available online here.
