Turfway Park selections for Thursday

Turfway Park’s Mike Battaglia provides daily selections and comments for the Tribune during the live racing meets.

Selections for Thursday, November 30

RACE 1
TOMAHAWK KITTEN was well backed in his debut against much better at Churchill. He dropped back to last and was eased by Corey Lanerie but Mike Maker has worked him three times since that race. He drops in against a weak field and can be expected to run much better at this level. SAFARI HEART hasn’t shown much in her two races but is a filly taking on the boys and she gets in light with apprentice Torres up. CODE ELEVEN ELEVEN is a contender.

RACE 2
CAT’S IN THE MOOD is winless this year but loves this track and appears to be in a good spot to regain his winning ways. THE GORILLA MAN moves to the barn of Mike Maker and also runs well on the Turfway Poly. BLUEGRASS BEAT will be tough if he handles the track.

RACE 3
SOUP D’COUPE was claimed two starts back and but came back to finish fifth in a small stakes race against thirteen runners. He gets the edge on the big class drop. DAVE HOEGHT ran well at Gulfstream and is the one to beat despite the four month layoff. THELASTTHUNDER has speed and the inside post.

RACE 4
WIDTH exits a tough turf sprint at Churchill. She was running well at the end and will like tonight’s added distance. She looks best for Tom Drury with Franklin picking up the mount tonight. GILDED LILY hasn’t shown much recently but is back on the Turfway Poly where she won back-to-back races in February. She posted a bullet work here on November 18 and Maker figures to have her ready for a top effort. ALREADY PACKED rates a chance.

RACE 5
DIVINING CHANGE is stuck with the outside post but drops in against a weak field of bottom claimers. Dean Sarvis, who had solid meets at Keeneland and Churchill, should be able to work out a good trip and her best makes her a winner in this one. FREEDOM WORKS is capable of a decent effort at nice odds. GIFT OF FRIENDS likes this track and rates a chance.

RACE 6
WEDDING DAY KITTEN is still a maiden after sixteen starts but has been in the money eleven times. She has two runner-up efforts here at Turfway and appears to be in a good spot to pick up her maiden score tonight. MISS MALIBU STYLE chased the top pick a couple of times and was just a length behind her in the slop at Hawthorne. She is the one to beat. SPICE DROP is lightly raced for Dane Kobiskie and is a candidate to improve.

RACE 7
ROYAL SON is winless this year but just missed in his last two on the Churchill turf. He won the Battaglia and was fifth in the Spiral as a three-year-old and he rates the edge with Dean Sarvis riding for Kellyn Gorder. DAC has been idle since May but is also a stakes winner over this track. He has won four of six here and has to be respected despite the layoff. HINTON won three of his first four and then ran a decent race in the Ohio Derby. Tom Drury is good with horses coming back off the layoff and has to be respected in a very good allowance race.

RACE 8
LIMERICK LADY will like the move back to Turfway, where she has won six races. Look for a big improvement from her in this one. QUE HANSEN has the speed to be in contention throughout and looks like the one to beat. PAPER DOLLIE has been off since July with no published works but drops to the bottom and fits here.
