The scoreboard operator will be a busy person on Saturday night when Transylvania University visits Thomas More College for a men’s college basketball game in the Connor Convocation Center at 7 p.m.

Transylvania is 2-0 after posting an 89-83 win against Centre on Monday night in Lexington. The high-scoring Pioneers enter Saturday night’s contest at Thomas More averaging 109.5 points per contest.

Thomas More, winners of three straight games, averages 81.8 points per contest and owns a 3-1 record. The Saints only loss is an 88-84 setback in two overtimes against Wilmington in the season opener.

Thomas More posted a 67-47 victory at Grove City College on Tuesday night. The Saints scorched the nets for 64.7 percent shooting from 3-point range, hitting 11 of 17 attempts from beyond the arc.

Austin Young buried four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points for the Saints, who built a 36-25 halftime lead and coasted to the win in their Presidents’ Athletic Conference opener. Ralph Stone added 11 points for Thomas More, while teammates Brandon Horne (10) and Michael Griffin (10) also netted double figures as the Saints handed Grove City (3-1) its first loss of the season.

Thomas More held Grove City to just 34.5 percent from the field. The Saints connected on 47.9 percent of their shots from the field.

Horne and teammate Damion King both average 11.3 points per game to lead a balanced Thomas More attack. Ryne Callahan is scoring 10.3 points per contest, while Simon Clifford averages 9.8 points.

The Saints will meet a Transylvania team capable of producing points in a hurry. In its season opener, Transylvania ran past Greenville (Ill.) University, 130-98, in Lexington. Gabe Schmitt scored 24 points in that win for the Pioneers.

Schmitt leads Transylvania in scoring at 25.5 points per game. Michael Jefferson and Drew Trimble each average 11.0 points per contest for the Pioneers.

Transylvania’s 130-point outburst against Greenville was its highest-scoring performance since netting a school-record 134 points against UC-Clermont on Nov. 29, 2002.
