More than 1 million signatures on gun control petition delivered to Sen. McConnell’s Ft. Wright office

Just days after the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history took the lives of 58 Americans, more than one million people have signed petitions demanding that Congress pass gun control legislation, including an assault weapons ban.

The petition signatures were collected by CREDO, Daily Kos, MoveOn, CT Against Gun Violence, Avaaz and MomsRising.

Friday, activists delivered those petition signatures in person to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s Fort Wright office and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Cory Gardner’s Denver office.

“Thoughts and prayers will not do anything to protect Americans from gun violence, but Republicans in Congress could if they weren’t afraid of the NRA,” said CREDO Political Director Murshed Zaheed. “It is long past time for Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan to take immediate action to ban weapons of war, including assault weapons and large capacity magazines, which have no place in the hands of private citizens. Anything less will make it clear that congressional Republicans care more about pleasing the NRA than keeping Americans safe.”

At both petition delivery events, activists read the names of the 58 people killed Sunday night in Las Vegas as a solemn reminder of the human cost of (the) failure to take legislative action to reduce gun violence.

It won’t matter. Ol’ Root and Branch Mitch owes his soul to the NRA.

I will fight to see that no one is voted into public office that accepts money from NRA or does not work to support comprehensive gun laws including a bon of assault weapons
