A young runner that was struck by a vehicle while training with teammates on Aero Parkway Monday afternoon sustained what the Boone County Sheriff’s office has described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say Anderson Carter, 11, of Florence was training with teammates and may have stepped out in traffic near the intersection of Aero Parkway and Turfway Road. He was struck by an oncoming 2001 Toyota Avalon being driven by Jeffrey Clark, 25, of Burlington.
Motorists passing through the busy intersection around the time of the incident sent messages across social media platforms, inquiring about the number of first responders, including air care, on the scene.
Carter was transported to a local hospital and there are no updates on his condition at this time.
The incident is still being investigated and the Boone County Sheriff’s department issued the following statement Monday evening:
On Monday, September 18, 2017 at approximately 4:05 p.m. a vehicle v. pedestrian collision near the intersection of Aero Parkway and Turfway Road near Florence, Kentucky sent the juvenile pedestrian to the hospital via Air Care with reported non-life-threatening injuries.
Eleven year old Anderson Carter of Florence, Kentucky was crossing near the intersection when he was struck by an oncoming 2001 Toyota Avalon operated by Jeffrey Clark, 25 of Burlington, Kentucky.
While the collision is still being investigated initial indicators are that Carter, who was running/training with members of his school running team, stepped out in traffic in front of the oncoming car.
