Special Olympics to hold Northern Kentucky Fire Truck Pull captain kickoff July 25 in Florence

Special Olympics Kentucky will hold a Captains Kickoff meeting for the 2017 Fire Truck Pull on Tuesday, July 25, at Barleycorn’s restaurant on US 42 in Florence. The kickoff will run from noon until 1:30 p.m.

Anyone interested in getting information about the event is invited to attend.

The Fire Truck Pull gives teams the chance to flex their muscles to support Special Olympics athletes by pulling a fire truck at the Wayfair facility on Donaldson Highway in Erlanger. It’s a race against the clock as teams see who can pull the truck 12 feet in the shortest time.

As many as 25 teams are expected to participate in the Fire Truck Pull when the Biggest Challenge in Northern Kentucky takes place at Wayfair on Saturday, September 19. The Fire Truck Pull will get underway at 10:30 am that day with an opening ceremony and the first pull will take place at approximately 11.

Teams are limited to 15 pullers and can be made up of friends, family members or coworkers. The Fire Truck Pull is a great opportunity for companies and other community organizations to showcase their support for Special Olympics. Pullers raise a minimum of $1,000 per team to compete. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest pull time in men’s, women’s and co-ed (minimum of six women) divisions as well as the team that shows the most team spirit and the team with the best team T-shirt. Additional prizes will be awarded to the Top Individual Fundraiser and top fundraising Special Olympics athlete participant.

All participants receive the official Fire Truck Pull T-shirt, but pullers who raise more money can earn prizes including Special Olympics Kentucky koozies, sun shades and blankets.

Teams that can’t make it to the kickoff can register to participate online at nkytruckpull.com.

Proceeds from the event go to benefit Special Olympics athletes throughout Kentucky.

The 2017 Northern Kentucky Fire Truck Pull is sponsored by Wayfair, Barleycorn’s and Q102.

The Fire Truck Pull is making its debut at Wayfair in Florence in place of the DHL Plane Pull, which Special Olympics Kentucky has held for the past four years. Changes at the airport have forced a pause in that event for now. In its four years, the Plane Pull raised nearly $350,000.
