Sullivan University Center for Learning-NKY offers college courses, credits for high school seniors


Sullivan University is giving Northern Kentucky high school students the opportunity to experience college courses while earning college credits a year before graduating.

Enrolling in a few college courses can put seniors ahead of their classmates and also help them be more prepared for a successful college experience, said Dr. Vicki Berling, Executive Director of the Sullivan University Center for Learning-Northern Kentucky in Fort Mitchell.

“Parents will also be thankful because the courses offered at Sullivan are offered at a discounted rate that will save hundreds of dollars per source,” Berling said.

Students who will be seniors in the 2017-18 school year are invited to enroll in the following college courses:

  • Fall Quarter – CSC 106: Computer Concepts (4 credits)

This course provides an overview of the capabilities and limitations of a computing environment. Discussion topics and hands-on activities include digital communications, software/hardware instillation, careers in the computer field, the future of computers and technology, and more.

This course meets daily, Monday through Thursday, 7:40 a.m. to 8:35 a.m. from Monday, Sept. 25 to Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017.

  • Winter Quarter – CSC 105: Introduction to Programming (4 credits)

This course introduces the student to critical thinking, problem solving, and to the design and use of programming techniques including variables, data types, modules and logic structures. Students apply theses concepts using problem solving tools including algorithms, flowcharts and more.

Berling

This course meets daily Monday through Thursday, 7:40 a.m. to 8:35 a.m., from Monday, Jan. 2 to Thursday, March 15, 2018.

In order to meet the requirements for this program the student must be a senior at the time of the course and have a high school GPA at time of admission of 2.0 or higher. Each student must also have permission from high school principal or guidance counselor and parent/guardian.

Each class costs $150 plus the purchase of the required textbook. Courses will take place at the Sullivan University Center for Learning – Northern Kentucky located at 207 Grandview Drive in Fort Mitchell. Free parking is available.
