Gov. Matt Bevin today appointed Jeffery Louis Schumacher, of Maysville, as District Judge for the 19th Judicial District of Kentucky—representing Bracken, Fleming and Mason counties.
Schumacher has maintained a private law practice in Maysville for the past 25 years. He has served as Master Commissioner of the Mason Circuit Court since 2002, as Trial Commissioner for the Mason District Court since 2011, and as attorney for the Maysville-Mason County Joint Planning Commission, the Maysville Board of Adjustments, and the Maysville Board of Architectural Review since 1996.
“I am honored by the announcement of my appointment as District Judge for the 19th Judicial District of Bracken, Fleming and Mason counties,” said Schumacher. “I thank Gov. Matt Bevin for this opportunity and for his confidence in my experience and work ethic that I will bring to this position.
“I must also express appreciation to my predecessor, the late Judge Frank H. McCartney,” he said. “During the illness that eventually took his life, Judge McCartney placed trust in me, provided me encouragement and advice, and allowed me the opportunity to gain some ‘on the job training’ which has prepared me for this position. I also thank the citizens, friends and fellow members of the bar association who wrote letters of support on my behalf during this nomination process. I look forward to serving the people of our judicial district and working with the court staff in all three counties to make our district courts the best in the state.”
Schumacher previously served as Assistant Mason County Attorney from 1994-2000. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University.
For more than two decades, he has served as treasurer of the Mason-Bracken Bar Association, the Maysville-Mason County Port Authority, and the Mason Manor Inc. charitable association. He is also a founding member of Wald Park Inc., a nonprofit organization currently renovating a community park in Maysville.
Schumacher is married to the Mason County Clerk, Stephanie Gantley Schumacher, and together the couple has six children.
He shall serve until the position is filled in accordance with the results of the November 2018 midterm election, pursuant to the provisions of Section 152 of the Kentucky Constitution.
