Letters to the Editor: Ed Kuehne, Roger Reis want to return to Taylor Mill commission

Edward (Ed) Kuehne
Taylor Mill Commissioner

My name is Ed Kuehne and I am currently a Commissioner for the City of Taylor Mill and I am running for re-election on November 8.

I have served my city through the 28 years that I have lived here. I have volunteered at events and attended commission meetings for many years before becoming a commissioner six years ago. Our son Joe attended Scott High School and my wife Paula and I are honored to say he is currently serving our country in the military. I can proudly state that Taylor Mill is my home and will be for years to come.  We have lived here long enough to see our city grow from a small community into being voted as one of the “Best Cities to Live in Northern Kentucky.”

The veteran incumbents seeking re-election — Kuehne, Reis and Murray plus Mark Kreimborg, are not only Commissioners but have been involved in community events and organizations for years.   None of the individuals seeking election against us have ever been involved in our community or as one has said, he has never even attended a commission meeting.

This election has become a campaign of false statements and a personal financial goal for one of our opponents. They continue to state that we turned down UDF, which is false. UDF would not build to our zoning requirements and so decided to walk away. We hear our opponents say they will lower taxes but our tax rates are lower than many cities in Kenton County. In the last several years, while keeping our taxes low, the city has made major improvements in equipment upgrades and replacements across all departments. We have increased all salaries, and installed three traffic signals on Pride Parkway at the city’s expense to name a few. One of the opponents seeking election owns land in the area of Pride Parkway and Honey Drive. He has stated publicly that if elected he will change the current zone guidelines to build as he desires.  Is that not a conflict of ethics?

The “Districts of Taylor Mill” zoning requirements will allow us to become a showplace for Northern Kentucky and a very walkable community. The beginning of this showcase is the Trifecta Building which is home to three of Greater Cincinnati’s own eateries, LaRosa’s, Graeters and Skyline. The second and third floors of this building house businesses with high paying professional job which only increases our revenue. We are also in discussion with a prominent developer who has plans for another first class development in the Districts.  We have proper planning in place to insure The Districts are built right the first time.

Taylor Mill is presently blessed to have Jill Bailey as our City Administrator. She has been voted “Outstanding Women of the Year” of Northern Kentucky in 2011 and “City/County Administrator of the Year” in 2008 and 2015. Our Police, Fire and Maintenance Departments employ the best and with the “across the board” raises implemented this year they will continue to serve with excellence, which makes Taylor Mill, according to Cincinnati Magazine, the  “Best Place to live in Northern Kentucky.”

Our mayor, Dan Bell and all of the commissioners are always willing to listen and discuss questions and concerns our citizens have. We welcome your involvement.

As I said,  Taylor Mill is my home and I would be honored to continue as a City Commissioner in keeping our city a place for which we are all proud to live and raise our families. I hope I can count on your vote on Nov. 8th.

Roger Reis
Taylor Mill Commissioner

It has been my honor to serve as your City Commissioner for the City of Taylor Mill over the past nine years. I am seeking re-election on November 8, 2016 and would appreciate your vote!

I have lived in Taylor Mill for the last 25 years with my wife, Judi, and our four children, Whitney, Brady, Kirby and Logan. Taylor Mill is a safe and family friendly community in which Judi and I have been fortunate to raise our children. I take a vested interest in the development of our city to make it more than just ordinary. I have always felt that Taylor Mill is a unique city and I would like to see it remain that way. The vision set in place by the city allows for development which will enhance the character of Taylor Mill making it a premier location to attract new businesses beneficial to our community. The quality of these developments will directly reflect property values for the citizens of Taylor Mill.

The City of Taylor Mill has benefitted greatly by adding new development as a result of the creation of Pride Parkway. Currently, the City of Taylor Mill is awaiting the authority to release the right-of-way along Pride Parkway from the State of Kentucky. Development, unfortunately, cannot proceed until the official word is received by the State of Kentucky. Recent new developments are the Lucky Duck Pub and the Trifecta which includes: LaRosa’s Pizzeria, Skyline Chili, Greater’s Ice Cream, two CPA offices, the Golf Exchange and the corporate headquarters for the Holland Restaurant Group. The Farm at Taylor Mill Apartments are in the planning process for three additional buildings with 72 upscale apartment units, as well as the ongoing renovation of existing apartments. There are approximately 128 residential homes completed or underway on Morning Glory Drive, Hunters Ridge Drive, Redstone Drive and High Ridge Drive. The City of Taylor Mill is growing! Don’t be fooled by naysayers touting that nothing new and exciting is happening in the City of Taylor Mill.

As a retired Duke Energy Supervisor and Manager for 33 years, I have worked with numerous municipalities throughout the Tri-State. My involvement with the City of Taylor Mill government was established from working side-by-side with the city officials during the planning stages of the new highway and relocation of utilities along the proposed route. Meeting guidelines and standards within development takes time, but if you believe it can happen, the end result will be achieved.
One of the many accomplishments I take pride in as your City Commissioner is helping run a debt free city. Not many cities can say that! Our city does this by consciously managing our budget without overly taxing our residents. The progress in development will enable our city to continue to keep financially on track.

Taylor Mill has always been a GREAT CITY and is to this day! The construction of a new highway should not change who we are as a city. It has provided growth opportunities that we need to strategically take advantage of in order to entice future economic development.

My commitment as your City Commissioner is to continue to support our outstanding city services and staff. I will always listen to the residents and make informed decisions that benefit the entire city. I will continue to work hard to bring quality economic development to the City of Taylor Mill.

Remember, your vote counts! Please vote Roger Reis for Taylor Mill City Commissioner on November 8th! Thank you for your continued support!

Hi! My name is Laurie Peace and my husband, Phil Peace, is running for Taylor Mill Commission. I just read the Letters to the Editor that Mr. Kuehne and Mr. Reis wrote and I do have a question for Mr. Kuehne. He says in the article, that “He has stated publicly that if elected he will change the current zone guidelines to build as he desires. Is that not a conflict of ethics?” He is talking about Phil Peace for Taylor Mill City Commission. Mr. Kuehne, please tell me when my husband EVER stated this? He has continually said that he CANNOT and WILL NOT get involved with decisions that could impact the property we have in Taylor Mill that we purchased to put a house on and THE CITY REZONED. Phil has even been advised not to run as it could be detrimental to our land ever developing, but his response to me when he made this decision to run was “Someone has to do something…..and I can’t expect others to do what I am not willing to do myself.” I know this may be difficult to understand, especially in the political arena where so many lose sight of honesty and integrity, but this is Phil. Regardless of how this election turns out on Tuesday, I am very proud of him and his desire to restore ethical government to Taylor Mill.
