Skyward President Bill Scheyer announced plans to retire, effective February 28, 2017. Scheyer has served as president of Skyward and its predecessor, Vision 2015, since 2009.
As president, Scheyer was responsible for the strategic direction and operations of Skyward, as well as for the development and execution of Northern Kentucky’s strategic plan. Under Scheyer’s leadership, the organization played a role in the creation of numerous organizations and partnerships including the Catalytic Fund, UpTech, Green Umbrella, the Licking River Greenway and Trails, the Northern Kentucky Education Council, the implementation of “Pre-K Works,” and the launch of LiveWell NKY. Scheyer also led the creation of the myNKY strategic plan, which engaged a greater number of community members in a more comprehensive, deeper fashion than any preceding community plan.

“I am very proud of the progress and accomplishments we’ve collectively made in our community during my time with Vision 2015 and Skyward,” said Scheyer. “It’s been an honor to work alongside the Skyward staff, our committed funders and partner organizations, and members of the community to prioritize the needs of our region and rally support around so many impactful initiatives and partnerships.”
Candace McGraw, CEO of the Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport and chair of the Skyward Board of Directors notes that we are, today, a markedly different and stronger community than we were in 2009 as a result of Scheyer’s leadership.
“We’re grateful to have had Bill lead us through the significant shift from Vision 2015 to Skyward and through the myNKY strategic planning process,” said McGraw. “Collective visioning is a strong community asset, due in large part to Bill’s vision, leadership and commitment to improving Northern Kentucky.”
Scheyer’s retirement represents the culmination of more than 40 years of service and commitment to the Northern Kentucky / Greater Cincinnati community.
In reflecting on his future plans, Scheyer adds, “I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and plan to continue to stay involved and support the important issues I have cared about for so many years.”
The Skyward Board of Directors will meet December 14th to discuss next steps.
