Three film projects get Ky Tourism incentives; one in NKy by Chris Collinsworth for NBC Sports

The Kentucky Tourism Development Finance Authority has approved three film projects for financial incentives.

Under the new film incentive law approved this year, approved film and television projects completed in Kentucky are eligible for up to a 30 percent tax rebate. Additional rebates are possible for using Kentucky labor and filming in certain counties.

The projects approved were:

– A feature film called “Permanent” by Permanent Pictures LLC that is expected to be filmed this year and spend about $800,000 in Kentucky.

– A feature film called “The Ultimate Legacy” by ReelWorks Studios LLC that will be filmed in Kentucky this year with a projected Kentucky budget of $1.25 million.

– A televised sports program called Pro Football Focus Weekly Report to be filmed in Northern Kentucky for NBC Sports. The production estimates $1 million to $2 million will be spent in Kentucky. Former NFL player and broadcaster Chris Collinsworth is the owner of the production.

The authority also gave preliminary approval to Paducah Riverfront Hotel LP for a 123-room lodging facility to be built adjacent to the Paducah Convention and Expo Center. The development is expected to cost $18.8 million. A study will now be conducted to see if the application meets the requirements for the incentive.

The authority also gave preliminary approval to Rabbit Hole Distilling LLC for a bourbon distillery and coffee-roasting facility in downtown Louisville. The developers are proposing a $16.8 million project that will include a tasting room and meeting space. A study will now be conducted to see if the application meets the requirements for the incentive.

Requirements necessary to receive incentives include meeting a minimum expenditure requirement, being open more than 100 days a year, attracting at least 25 percent of visitors from outside the state by its fourth year of operation and having a positive net economic impact on the Kentucky economy.

The authority considers applications under the Kentucky Tourism Development Act, which allows eligible tourism attractions a rebate of sales tax up to 25 percent of project capital costs.
