Turfway Park Selections for Thursday

Turfway Park’s Mike Battaglia provides daily selections and comments for the Tribune during the live racing meets.

Selections for Thursday, Dec. 7

RACE 1
TALIAFERRO COUNTY drops to a career low claiming level and has run well over this track in the past. She appears to be in a good spot to pick up the win. SONDER figures to make the lead and if she gets loose she could be tough to catch. UNCLE TOMMY has won two of her last three. She will be running at the end and is a solid threat.

RACE 2
THE PINK WILDCAT has the speed to make the lead and rates the slight edge in a well matched bottom claimer.  CHOCTAW won back-to-back races at Belterra before facing better at Churchill. Look for an improved effort tonight. AEROPAGUS hasn’t raced since February but has been training well for her return.

RACE 3
FRIGIDISH just missed at Churchill last out and was claimed by Kim Hammond, who has solid numbers with her first claims. She looks best with Victor Lebron named to ride. BIRD STREET finally got her maiden win in her 18th start but it was an impressive performance. A repeat of that one will make her tough to beat. KOOKABURRA didn’t like the move to the dirt last out and is capable of better in her first try on the Poly.

RACE 4
DAYIN DEAUVILLE moves to the barn of Aaron West, who has had a very good year, winning at a 21 percent clip. This one ran well on the Arlington Poly and posted a solid work here November 16. Give her the edge in this bottom claimer. PROM THEME comes off a poor performance at Churchill but likes this track and could wake up tonight. RANGERS FUNNY GIRL is a definite threat.

RACE 5
DISTANT MOON has been off since June but drops to the bottom for his return. He could spring the mild upset in here. RAREST QUALITY is a definite threat but the big class plunge is a reason for concern. HAY NET also takes the class drop and is a solid contender.

RACE 6
DETERMINED BRAEDON comes off of a poor effort but he had a rough tip in that one. He is capable of much better and can win this one at nice odds. STRANGLEHOLD didn’t take to the muddy track last out but has a solid record on all-weather surfaces and won his only start over this track. He is the one to beat. JUST CHILLIN BOSS has the speed to be a contender.

RACE 7
ARAWAK has had some decent efforts against much better competition. He has been off since October with no published works but Wes Ward figures to have him ready and he looks best with Garcia back aboard. GUNNY ROO is also trained by Ward and exits the same race as his stable mate. He broke poorly in that one and was never in contention but has had three works over this track and is capable of much better. TRES EQUIS exits a very tough allowance race at Churchill and is a solid threat.

RACE 8
DYNAMITE STICK drops to the bottom and can beat this bunch with his best effort. EMMETT’S DREAM had to need his last race after a 13-month layoff. He figures to improve and is the one to beat. VALIDATED BLARNEY is a contender.
