Enzweiler Building Institute grants from RC Durr, PCW, used for high school intro to skilled trades

The Enzweiler Building Institute, operated for 50 years by the Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky (BIA), has been awarded a $12,700 grant from the RC Durr Foundation in addition to $10,000 from the Partners for a Competitive Workforce (PCW) initiative.

These grants are focused on a daytime high school introduction to skilled trades training program.

The partnership, which currently allows students from Boone County, Kenton County and Ludlow Independent Schools to learn valuable hands-on skills is a concerted effort to introduce students to the career options in the skilled trades and to fill a severe shortage in construction workforce development.  Funds will be used to purchase, equipment and supplies to enhance the hands-on learning experience of the students.

“We are facing the largest workforce shortage in the skilled trades since WWII,” said Brian Miller, executive vice president of BIA.  “Just in the seven trades we offer the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has identified the need for over 46,500 new skilled construction trade professionals in the coming decade.  We are grateful for Partners for a Competitive Workforce for sharing in our vision to address this critical need and to for the RC Durr Foundation’s assistance in helping us in this critical endeavor.”
