Don Owen joins NKyTribune team, bringing versatility, long experience in NKY, sports information


Long-time sports communication specialist Don Owen has joined the NKyTribune staff, Judith Clabes, editor and publisher has announced.

Owen, a native of Newport, has spent more than 27 years working in the sports communications field.

Owen was a sports writer for The Kentucky Post from 1990-93, and he served as the sports information director at Northern Kentucky University from 1993-2014.

He is also the author of two novels, including the paranormal thriller “Wilderness of Divine Precedent” that was published in 2016.

He is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University and lives in Fort Thomas.

“We are happy to have a professional of Don’s experience and knowledge of Northern Kentucky join us in our effort to serve this region and continue to grow,” said Clabes.

Owen will specifically cover college sports but will also serve as utility reporter and copy editor.

“We expect Don’s role to grow as the Trib does,” Clabes said. “He is an incredibly versatile journalist with rich understanding of the community. We believe this is just another great step in the right direction for us.”

Owen said he is excited about the opportunity.

“I’m grateful to Judy Clabes for allowing me to join an outstanding staff at the NKyTribune,” Owen said. “This is a community that loves its sports, whether it’s high school, college, or the pros. I’m hoping to add to the publication’s coverage, and I’m humbled to be back in the reporting field. It’s a great feeling.”
