Newport Christian Academy provides after-school program to help children with more than homework

In partnership with Newport First Church of the Nazarene and Renewanation, Newport Christian Academy (NCA) enriches the lives of children in a poverty-stricken community.

They provide an after-school program to help each child become a world changer.

Because they rely solely on donations, NCA has created an online fundraiser through RedBasket.org to provide more materials and meals for the students.

The NCA after-school program was designed to provide students with homework assistance and a reliable daily meal, but has expanded to include much more. Not only does the program offer one-on-one assistance, but students are also taught important life skills like proper conflict resolution, a sense of pride in the community, and putting others before themselves. There are opportunities for field trips, community service projects, and crafts.

“We provide a safe environment for the children to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually,” said program director Jenny Fikes.

In order to continue their mission, NCA’s after-school program is raising money through RedBasket.org, a fee-free fundraising website. They hope to raise $10,000 to purchase more materials, as well as meal supplies, to provide for more children.

“Our mission is to change the world one child at a time, and help them become the world changers they were intended to be,” Jenny said.

This fundraiser will be online through November 23. To learn more or to make a tax-deductible donation, please visit the website.
