Gateway to host opening reception of its first Alumni Exhibit on Oct. 4 at The Gallery in Covington

Gateway Community & Technical College will hold an opening reception of its first Alumni Exhibit on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in The Gallery, 516 Madison Avenue, Covington, in the Center for Technology, Innovation and Enterprise (TIE) building.

The Gateway Alumni Exhibit highlights the works of eight graduate artists who will be available to discuss their work during the reception. Artists include Keith Neltner whose small-batch, screen printed gig posters have been featured in books and competitions, Chris Dye who utilizes simplicity and lines to create his unique lino-cut prints, and Carly Hummel whose edgy display highlights her socially relevant t-shirt designs.

The exhibit also includes works by April Bentley who captures her model’s personality in her photograph, Alice Bergman whose photography is inspired by nature, Todd Lipscomb who exhibits a bold, graphic style, Aaron May who shares his modern screen printed posters, and Ben Wilson who utilizes heavy black and white contrast in his illustrations.

“Pursuing my Visual Communication degree at Gateway was risky,” Hummel said. “I didn’t know anything about design, or if I would even be a good fit. Surprisingly, creative thinking came very natural to me.

“Since graduating last year, I’ve been working as a graphic designer for a custom clothing shop. By showing my work at the exhibit, I want people to be inspired to follow their passion and live out loud.”

”Gateway has amazing graduate artists, and it has always been my dream to host an alumni exhibit. When I was given the opportunity to tie this event to Dr. Figueroa’s installation, I knew the time was right,” says Toni Bloom Mueller, Coordinator of Community Engagement.

“Our goal is to make the Gateway Gallery a place for the community to visit our campus and see local artists’ work in a welcoming environment.”

The Gateway Alumni Exhibit runs Oct. 4 – 27 and is free to the public.

The Gallery is open Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The opening reception is also free and open to the public, please RSVP here.
