Report of shots fired in food court at Florence Mall that results in lockdown turns out to be fireworks

An incident that was initially reported as shots fired in the area of the food court at Florence Mall Tuesday afternoon turned out to be a much less dangerous, but still frightening, situation for shoppers.

Surveillance video of unknown male who set of fireworks in the food court at Florence Mall, causing a brief lockdown.

An unknown male, whose image was captured on surveillance cameras, let off some fireworks and ran out of the mall.

Florence Police responded to the call of an active shooter in the mall at approximately 2:20 p.m. Shortly after arriving in the food court area, several witnesses informed, officers that it was actually a man letting off firecrackers, which they confirmed by viewing video.

The mall was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution, but there were no injuries as a result of the incident.

On 8/8/17 the Florence Police Department responded to the area of the food court in the Florence Mall for a report of shots being fired. Officers were on scene within one minute of the call and quickly made entry into the food court. Several witnesses in the food court advised the officers that it was an unknown male who actually let off some firecrackers and ran out of the Mall. Officers were quickly able to verify this by reviewing security video. The Florence Mall was briefly placed on lockdown. There were no injuries as a result of the incident. Suspect:   M/B, stocky build, late teens or early twenties,  peach or pink colored polo shirt gray shorts and white tennis shoes.
