Spotlight: Ky Speedway preparing for 2017 Quaker State 400; get free tickets from the NKyTribune

NOTE: All the tickets have been given away. Thank You!

Kentucky Speedway’s signature triple header weekend is coming up July 6-8.

The weekend is highlighted by the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Quaker State 400 presented by Advance Auto Parts, a key stop on NASCAR’s premier circuit schedule, which takes place Saturday, July 8. The Quaker State 400 will also be the last trip around the Kentucky Speedway oval for NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, Jr., who has announced he will retire at the end of the racing season.

NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will make his last trip around the Kentucky Speedway oval at the Quaker State 400, on July 8 (NKyTribune file photo).

The Quaker State 400 is preceded by the Camping World Truck Series, which starts the weekend with the Buckle Up in Your Truck 225 on Thursday, July 6, followed by the XFINITY Series Alsco 300 Friday, July 7.

With a resurfacing, Kentucky Speedway has lost the bumps and “character” that presented challenges for many drivers. The new surface, however, has challenges of its own, and NASCAR driver Kyle Busch has described a Kentucky Speedway race as trying to “get through each and every lap with a puckered butt.”

Racing is just part of a weekend filled with activities at Kentucky Speedway that includes Fan Zone activities and a pre-race concert by Sawyer Brown.

Below, Brent Cooper, interim president of the Northern Kentucky Chamber, features in the Chamber’s Spotlight, Mark Simendinger, general manager of the Kentucky Speedway, who talks about the big weekend.
