Historic marker honoring Civilian Conservation Corps Camp unveiled by Walton-Verona students


Boone County’s newest Historic Marker commemorates the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp that was located on the property now occupied by the Walton-Verona Middle School on Church Road.

The Marker, sponsored by the Boone County Historical Society, was unveiled by members of the Middle School Principal’s Student Advisory Committee: Abby McKinley, Chevy Vaske, Addison Greener, Elizabeth Wilson, Meg Gamm, Kirsten Spillman, Melanie Smith, Olivia Drohan, Jenna Kitko, Maggie Buerger, Brant Smitthers, and Ashley Alston. Taking part in the excitement were Boone County Historical Society Member and Walton Historian, The Honorable Asa Rouse, W-V Assistant Superintendent Mark Krummen, Boone County Judge Executive Gary Moore, Middle School Principal Eric Morwessel, W-V School Superintendent Dr. Robert Storer, and Boone County Planning Commission’s Rural/Open Space Planner Matthew Becher.
