Cooper, Camp Ernst Odyssey of the Mind team earned a spot at 38th World Finals in Michigan

A group of talented students at Cooper High School has achieved a feat that has never been done by Cooper students before.  They have placed first at both the Regional and Kentucky State level of Odyssey competition, and are the first to qualify for World Finals.

They are looking for money to help fund the trip.

A team representing Cooper High School, composed of Cooper High and Camp Ernst Middle School students, 10th grader Emma Mulligan, 9th grader Jude Mulligan, 8th graders Morgan Braun and Anya Tyree, and 7th grader Elyse Sergent are the Northern Kentucky Regional and Kentucky State Champions for Odyssey of the Mind Division III Problem 2, and have qualified for World Finals held May 24th-May 28th at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.

“These students had one goal this year and that was to make it to World Finals” says coach Sean Mulligan.  “They have been working hard building and practicing every week since school started to make it to this point.”

The tournament charges each team a $3000 registration fee.  That fee does not include room and board, food and travel expenses.  Those costs will be close to $3000 as well.

The team has raised some funds so far, but the deadline is quickly approaching and without the money they may not be able to make the tournament.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international STEAM based competition focusing on creativity and engineering that helps students develop skills in problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork, math, science, writing, engineering, as well as language and performing arts.

More than 900 teams from more than 25 countries and over 20 states will compete in the 38th Odyssey of the Mind World Finals this month.

“Competing in Odyssey World Finals not only will allow these Cooper High School students, and future Jags to be immersed in STEAM based learning, but it will allow them to experience other cultures, learn other customs, and make life-long friends from all over the world!” said Sean Mulligan.
