FRANKFORT, Ky. – Hunters and fishermen could bag some bargains at the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources’ surplus property auction on Monday.

Boats, boat trailers, compound bows, trucks, fishing equipment, handguns, rifles and shotguns will be among the items up for sale at the Salato Wildlife Center on U. S. 60 West, in Frankfort.

Prospective bidders can check out the items up for sale beginning at 8 a.m., with the auction getting underway at 10 a.m.

Finance and Administration Cabinet spokesperson Pamela Trautner said the auction typically draws a large crowd of people interested in items that have either outlived their usefulness for the agency or that have been confiscated from wrongdoers.

Trautner said all items will be sold “as is and where is.”

“While the bidding is open to anyone, by law, confiscated items can only be purchased by Kentucky residents,” she said.

Full payment is due within one hour after the close of the auction. Payments can be made by credit card, cashiers, certified or travelers checks, money orders, or with a person check with proper ID.

All checks over $5,000 as well as all out of state checks require a fully certified bank letter on bank letterhead, guaranteeing payment, or bids will not be accepted.

About 90 percent of the revenue generated through the auctions will go to the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. The remainder goes to the Kentucky Division of Surplus Property Division.

Trautner said the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources typically has two auctions a year, in May and October.

“Last year, the two auctions brought in about $316,000,” she said.
