A new flag collection box has been installed for area residents at the City of Union Building.

A collection box for flags which are too torn or damaged to fly and need retirement was installed by Luke Schauberger, a scout with Boy Scout Troop 702 in Union.

Members of Troop 702 will come each month to collect any flags placed inside.

The box is located near the foyer of the Union City Building at 1843 Mt. Zion Road.

The box, created as Luke’s Eagle Project, will allow residents to drop off their flags for collection and proper retirement by the troop members.

The box was handcrafted by Luke, who is a freshman at Ryle High School.
