Dr. Brooke Edwards named chief medical officer of Urology Group, sees patients in Northern Kentucky

Brooke Edwards, M.D., has been named chief medical officer of Norwood-based The Urology Group.

In her new role, Dr. Edwards is a key member of the executive team and will play a pivotal role in providing medical oversight, expertise and leadership to ensure the continued delivery of advanced urological care in the tristate.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be selected for this position,” Dr. Edwards said. “I look forward to serving and supporting the medical needs of our community with this role.”

Dr. Edwards joined The Urology Group in 2014 and sees patients in its Northern Kentucky and Norwood offices. She replaces Dr. Philip Buffington as CMO, who held the position since 2009. Dr. Buffington chose to step away from the role to spend more time with family. He will continue his full-time role seeing patients in the Blue Ash, Eastgate and Norwood offices.

“We value her leadership style, successful track record of improving quality and patient care, and the unique perspective she brings to our leadership team,” said Dr. Gary Kirsh, president of The Urology Group.

Along with being highly qualified, Dr. Edwards’ promotion is a clear indicator of the Group’s commitment to diversity in its senior leadership team. Of an estimated 9,600 U.S. urologists, between eight percent and 12 percent are women, according to a 2016 study.

Dr. Edwards specializes in robotic surgery of the kidney and prostate, urethral reconstruction and treatment of incontinence, genitourinary cancer and erectile dysfunction. She completed her residency in urology at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia, where she also completed her surgical internship. A member of the American Urological Association as well as the Société Internationale d’Urologie, she is licensed in Kentucky and Ohio.

Dr. Edwards graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis in 2009. She earned her undergraduate degree in kinesiology from Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington, graduating with High Distinction. A four-year varsity letter winner in track and field at IU, she was named to the Academic All-Big Ten Conference Team from 2000 to 2002.

She lives in Villa Hills with her husband and three children.
