Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Department sets fall surplus, confiscated item auction for Oct. 31


The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will conduct its fall auction of surplus and confiscated items Oct. 31 at department headquarters in Frankfort.

Surplus auction items include boats, boat motors, trucks, various farming equipment, a Yamaha Big Bear ATV and more. Bidding on surplus items is open to everyone.

Confiscated auction items include shotguns, rifles, pistols, hunting equipment, a John Deere Gator and more. Under state law, only qualified Kentucky residents may bid on confiscated items.

A list of all items to be offered at auction is available online at fw.ky.gov, the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife website. The list also includes the stipulations of the auction. All items are sold “as is.”

Viewing begins at 8 a.m. (Eastern), with bidding to begin at 10 a.m. The auction will be held near the Salato Wildlife Education Center, which is located on the headquarters campus of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife at 1 Sportsman’s Lane. Visitors may find the headquarters complex off U.S. 60 in Frankfort, approximately 1 ½ miles west of the intersection with U.S. 127. A bronze deer statue marks the entrance.

Garey Farms of Paris, Ky., will be selling light breakfast and lunch items during the auction. Five percent of the food and beverage sales will be donated to the Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign (KECC).

Charities represented by KECC improve academic achievement, provide medical care to children and rebuild communities after disasters strike.

Public meeting on Kentucky, Barkley lakes set for Oct. 25

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will conduct a public meeting Oct. 25 to discuss fisheries issues affecting western Kentucky.

Western District Fisheries Biologist Paul Rister will present information on crappie and bass fishing in Barkley and Kentucky lakes. In addition, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Aquatic Nuisance Species Biologist Neal Jackson and Fisheries Director Ron Brooks will provide updates on the department’s current efforts and its future plans to remove and study Asian carp in the two reservoirs.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife employees also want to hear from the public on these topics.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. (Central) at the Grand River Community Center, 155 Western Cumberland Ave., Grand Rivers, Ky.
