Simon Kenton won a penalty kick shootout to come away with a 2-1 victory over Oldham County in the semifinals of the 8th Region girls’ soccer tournament on Tuesday at the Walton-Verona Sports Complex.
The Pioneers will play South Oldham in the regional championship game at 7 p.m. Thursday with the winner advancing to the sectional round of the state playoffs. Simon Kenton, the defending regional champion, defeated South Oldham, 2-0, in the first game of the season for both teams.
In Tuesday’s semifinal game, Haley Dougherty scored Simon Kenton’s only goal in regulation off an assist by Abigail Zoeller.
