NKU Men’s Basketball Notes: Norse wrap up three-game road trip with Horizon match at Milwaukee


The Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team wraps up a three-game road trip with a Monday evening Horizon League men’s basketball showdown at Milwaukee. An 8 p.m. tipoff is scheduled.

Countdown to 1,000 and 500: With 17 points at Eastern Illinois, Billups became the 31st Norse to reach 900 points for his career. His sights are now set on the 1,000-point plateau and he is just 11 points away with 989. Billups eclipsed 500 rebounds with a six-board outing at Green Bay to become the 21st player in school history to reach the mark. He now has 501 and ranks 20th all-time. Nine other Norse have reached 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds, while 23 players have reached the 1,000-point plataeu in scoring.

Countdown to 900: With 888 points, White is on the cusp of joining Billups as a member of 900-point club. After a 20-point outing at Toledo and six at GB, the Lima, Ohio, native needs just 12 points to become the 32nd player in team history to reach the mark.

• NKU dropped its first-ever #HLMBB game at Green Bay, 86-70, on Saturday.
• NKU placed 3 players in double-digits at GB, led by F Jalen Billups’ 18 points.
• NKU won the rebound battle at GB, 43-37, marking the fifth time in the last seven games NKU controlled the glass.
• Four Norse are averaging 10 or more points per game this season, led by Billups at 14.2.
• Billups hauled in six rebounds at Green Bay, surpassing the 500-board plateau and moving him into the top-20 all-time at NKU with 501.
• Billups led the nation w/ 69.6% shooting last year, and is among the nation’s leaders at 66.0% (68-103) this year.

• G Lavone Holland is averaging a team-best 5.8 rebounds per game. He is 2nd on the team in scoring at 12.2 points.
• G Cole Murray has had the hot hand from long range, shooting 41.9% (26-of-62) from behind the arc this year.
• Murray is one of four Norse averaging double-figures this year, checking in at 10.2 ppg.
• After flirting w/ double-doubles the last few games, F Drew McDonald recorded the first of his career with 12 points, 13 rebounds at GB.
• In the last four games, McDonald is averaging 13.0 points on 62.5 percent shooting (20-of-32) and 8.8 rebounds per game.
