Three NKy schools among 11 from Kentucky honored as 2015 National Blue Ribbon Schools

The U.S. Department of Education has deemed three Northern Kentucky schools as 2015 National Blue Ribbon Schools for overall academic excellence and the exemplary high performance of its students. Those schools – Beechwood Elementary School and Blessed Sacrament School in Fort Mitchell, and St. Pius X Elementary School in Edgewood – are among 11 Kentucky schools honored this year.

Education Secretary Arne Duncan saluted a total of 335 schools. “This honor recognizes your students’ accomplishments and the hard work and dedication that went into their success,” he said in a Sept. 29 video message. “Your journey has taught you collaboration, intentional instruction, and strong relationships in school and with your community. You represent excellence — in vision, in implementation, and in results — and we want to learn as much as we can from you.”

The Education Department will honor the 285 public and 50 private schools Nov. 9-10 in Washington, D.C. The award plaque affirms the hard work of students, educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. The award flag gracing a school’s building is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.

In its 33-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has given this coveted award to some 8,000 schools.
