Ryle basketball player Maddie Scherr showed why she’s one of the nation’s top college prospects among the high school graduating class of 2020 during the Nike Nationals in Chicago earlier this week.

In five games with the Kentucky Premier select team, Scherr had 54 points, 30 rebounds, six assists and two blocks. She shot 40 percent (22 of 54) from the field overall and 38.4 percent (5 of 13) from 3-point range.
Scherr was a double-figure scorer in four of her team’s five games. She posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds against Midwest Elite.
The 5-foot-11 guard is ranked No. 17 in the nation among college prospects in the graduating class of 2020, according to the current USA Today high school player evaluations. She has received numerous scholarship offers with Louisville, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia heading the list.
Scherr has already scored more than 1,200 points in four varsity seasons at Ryle. Last season, she averaged 16.2 points and 7.4 rebounds for the Raiders, who won the program’s first 9th Region championship that made it to quarterfinals of the state tournament.
Scherr was voted second-team all-state in a poll of Kentucky high school coaches after her impressive sophomore season. She was invited to play on the Kentucky Premier under-17 select team this summer along with Ryle teammate Lauren Schwartz and Courtney Hurst of Conner.
Schwartz had 30 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists in five games during the Nike Nationals this week. The Kentucky Premier team had a 2-1 record in pool play and lost two games in bracket play.
