Following the retirement of Police Chief Tim Thames, the City of Elsmere has promoted Officer Steve Bohman to be the City’s Police Chief.

Elsmere City Council approved Bohman for the job at its July 10, meeting.

“I am extremely honored to be the next Elsmere Police Chief,” Bowman said. “Chief Thames certainly has some large shoes to fill and I am greatly humbled to be given the opportunity to lead the men and women of this great department. I truly appreciate the opportunity that Mayor Lenhof and Elsmere City Council has given me. I believe in strong community relationships and hope to continue to move our department forward,”

Chief Bohman has over 20 years of experience in law enforcement and has been a member of the Elsmere Police Department since June of 2017. Chief Bohman previously served on the Covington Police Department for 20 years. In his time in Covington, Chief Bohman was a field training officer, school resource officer, community outreach officer, internal affairs investigator and rose to the rank of Sergeant.

“Hiring a new Police Chief is a critically important decision and process. We dedicated a lot of time to the hiring process and met with a number of extremely talented candidates,” Mayor Marty Lenhof said “Throughout the interview process, I was impressed with Steve’s vision for the future of our police department.

“This vision of strong community engagement, combined with his experience and familiarity having already been a member of our department, makes Steve the perfect hire for the Chief position.   He will continue Elsmere Police’s efforts to build relationships with city residents and businesses and proactively address issues.”

Elsmere, a city of approximately 8,500 residents, has 15 sworn police officers. Chief Bohman will begin leading the department immediately.
