Summer is here and BCPL June calendar for adults includes concerts and plenty of other activities


The Boone County Public Library offers events at its branches and throughout the county during the month of June. A list of scheduled events for adults is included here. A separate list of events for teens and children is published separately.

Thapa

Refugee Speaker: Ishwar Thapa

Hear the firsthand narrative of Ishwar Thapa, who escaped his native Bhutan after being persecuted and receiving death threats. Ishwar fled to Nepal where he lived as a refugee for 23 years. In 2016, Ishwar and his family were granted refugee status by the United States. Resettled by Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio, the Thapa fami¬ly is connected with the Nepalese com¬munity in the greater Cincinnati Area. Currently working and taking care of his family, Ishwar is happy to have the freedom and opportunity to pursue his dreams in this country. Come early (5 to 6:30 p.m.) and try the Library’s virtual reality equipment to explore Bhutan and learn about the refugee experience before the presentation.

More Than Big Bones: 12,000 Years of Human Life at Big Bone

Archaeologist Jeannine Kreinbrink will explore the history of Big Bone Lick State Historic Site. Humans have been present in this Big Bone Valley for at least 12,000 years. Learn about the Native American cultures who lived and visited the area from Paleo to historic times.
