Beechwood Band Boosters award Sarah E. Menez Memorial Scholarship to Reynolds

During the Beechwood High School Senior Awards program in May, the Beechwood Band
Boosters announced senior Andrew Reynolds as the recipient of the 2018 Sarah E. Menez
Memorial Scholarship.

Reynolds is a member of the Cincinnati Youth Orchestra on Trumpet; CCM Prep Brass Choir,
KMEA All-State Orchestra (2017); KMEA All-State Symphonic Band (2018); member of the
Beechwood Marching Tigers (2012-2017), the Beechwood Symphonic Band (2014-2018), and
the Beechwood Jazz Ensemble (2014-2018). He earned KMEA State Championships with the
Marching Tigers (2012, 2013, 2015, 2016); KMEA State Runner-up honors (2014, 2017).

During Reynolds’ time as a member of the Beechwood Marching Tigers, the Band finished as
Bands of America Semifinalists three times, placing in the top three in Class A each year.

Reynolds is currently pursuing his Eagle Scout Rank. Part of his Eagle Scout project was
adding benches around the Beechwood campus including the Marching Tigers practice facility.

He has accepted a scholarship to the University of Kentucky where he will pursue a double
major in Trumpet Performance and Music Education.

“I appreciate this award and all it represents to me, my family, and the Beechwood Band
program,” said Reynolds. “In particular, I plan to continue to give back through music-making in
the future.”

Beechwood Band Boosters President Mike James said “We are pleased to have this scholarship
to promote purposes and qualities of character, musicianship, and academic achievement in our
students. It is always a challenge, however, to select one student from so many fine candidates.”

The Sarah E. Menez Memorial Scholarship was established in 2014 by the Beechwood Band
Boosters in association with Joseph Menez to honor the memory of his late wife, Sarah Menez.

One scholarship is awarded annually for tuition assistance to a senior attending Beechwood High
School who has best represented the personal qualities of Sarah Menez, musicianship, academic
promise, and who has been accepted at an accredited college or university and majoring in a
music concentration (in instrumental music) or music education course of study for the
upcoming school year.
