Rep. Wuchner, Mayor Whalen to unveil sign for the Jack Reno Road naming on May 24

State Rep. Addia Wuchner and Florence Mayor Diane Whalen will unveil the Jack Reno Road Naming and Sign next Thursday at the Florence Government Center.

The public is invited to the 11 a.m. event at 8100 Ewing Blvd.

In 2017, Rep. Wuchner proposed and passed legislation in the road naming bill to create the “Jack Reno Memorial Highway,” at the I71/I75 ramps on Highway 42 in Florence, where his “Hitchin’ a Ride” album cover photo was taken.

The “Jack Reno Memorial Highway” will commemorate Jack’s life work as a recording artist and much-celebrated radio and broadcast personality.

In 1975, Jack joined the staff of WLW, where the 50,000-watt clear channel all night show format was changed to a Country and Western radio show known as the Jack Reno Interstate 7 Show. Among so many pioneering radio successes, Jack captured listeners from coast-to-coast and perhaps cherished the most those who were up all night and just needed somebody to talk to.

Jack spent countless time giving to local charities, and as a result of his tremendous following, in 1977 he received the Open Road Truck Drivers’ Country Music Award. In 1972, Jack and his family made their home in Florence and remain there today.
