Kyle Pollock’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning plated James Harris with the winning run Friday night as the Washington Wild Things pulled out a 4-3 victory over the visiting Florence Freedom.

Harris began the winning rally with a single and advanced to second on a hit by Carter McEachern. After Roman Collins walked to load the bases with one out, the Freedom brought in relief pitcher Johnathon Tripp to face Pollock.

Pollock lifted a drive to left field that was caught by Brandon Pugh, but the fly ball allowed Harris to score the winning run. Harris was 2-for-5 and scored twice to pace the Washington offense. McEachern and Reydel Medina each added three hits for the Wild Things.

Xavier Turner was 2-for-4 to lead the Florence offense. Freedom reliever Tyler Gibson took the loss, allowing three hits and a run in 1 1/3 innings on the mound.

Freedom starting pitcher Jordan Kraus lasted seven innings, allowing nine hits and three earned runs.

Florence and Washington meet again Saturday in the second of the three-game weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
