Dan Decker of Cold Spring among volunteer award winners at Cincinnati Assocaiton for Blind and Visually Impaired


Dan Decker of Cold Spring was awarded the Samuel S Sheffield Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service from the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI).

Decker and others were honored during their recent annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.

Over 275 attendees enjoyed a beautiful day at the zoo. CABVI’s Radio Reading Services is also celebrating its 40th anniversary by serving its listeners who are blind or visually impaired through broadcasting print material. A special award was given to Dr. Elmer Fischer, the Founder and first Executive Director of Radio Reading Services of Greater Cincinnati.

Seven volunteers received recognition for special service. Tokens of appreciation were also given to volunteers who reached a service milestone.

Mike Moskowitz of Amberley Village; the Caroline Fleming Fibbe Award, In Recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service for Radio Reading Services of Greater Cincinnati.

Diane O’Brian of Pleasant Ridge; the Jim Moser Award, In Recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service as Broadcast Support.

Jan Costello of Cincinnati; the Ron Ott Award, In Recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service as a Personalized Talking Print Reader.

Amanda Holbrook and Hannah Holbrook of New Richmond; The Paul Silverglade Youth Volunteer Award, In Recognition for Outstanding Service as a Youth Volunteer.

Christine Andrew of Hyde Park; The One on One Award, In Recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service as a One on One Volunteer.

CABVI has a total of 695 volunteers, some of whom have been working with the organization for more than 40 years. Volunteers support everything from CABVI’s Radio Reading Service to special events such as CABVI’s Annual 5K Walk/Run.
