Building Industry Association recognized for ‘Best Workforce Development Program’ by NAHB

The Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky (BIA) has been recognized as a leader in workforce development by the National Association of Homes Builders (NAHB).

The Association Excellence Awards is an annual program designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of state and local HBAs and executive officers in the field of association management.

The award represented achievements for “Best Workforce Development Program” for the association’s “Northern Kentucky Regional Construction Partnership” model that was awarded a Kentucky Work Ready Skills Initiative grant in 2017. Awards can only be given in each category once every three years unless significant changes and advances have been made in that category.

“In the last nine years NAHB has deemed our efforts in workforce development to be the best in the Nation among our peers six times,” said Brian Miller, Executive Vice President of the organization.

“It just goes to show how we have innovated our workforce development efforts for nearly a decade.  We are extremely proud of our leadership that has guided us through our journey, the education community that has traveled with us and continue to perform as outstanding partners in workforce development in our industry and our dedicated and energetic staff that work to make ideas become reality,” Miller concluded.

The “Northern Kentucky Regional Construction Partnership” is a career pathway that begins with instruction to trades programming that flows then through Area Technology Centers throughout Northern Kentucky, on to the BIA’s Enzweiler Building Institute and finally with Gateway Community and Technical College.

The partnership addresses seven trades and provides dual credit between Area Technology Centers and the BIA’s Enzweiler Building Institute, and between the Institute and Gateway. The $2.69 million in funding from the Kentucky Work Ready Skills Initiative will go to expand the Institute’s Boone County Campus located in the Circleport Office Park and will provide building alterations to implement up to date technology throughout the Institute’s Boone County Campus.

A second campus will be brought up to date at what once was the Alexandria Elementary school in Campbell County on Orchard Lane. The Campbell Campus will house introduction to trades courses and evening adult post-secondary Enzweiler Building Institute Courses.  More resources and materials will be supplied through the grant to the Campbell County Area Technology Center for additional evening courses to round out the seven areas of construction offered in Campbell County in both locations.

The mission of the Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky is to promote and enhance the integrity and visibility of the construction industry and the members of the organization through advocacy, communication, education and political action.
