Founded in 1945, Sweet Adelines International began as a small group of women who loved to sing but has grown into a nonprofit organization that bridges continents and unites women from around the world in their mutual love of music. Seven states will be represented at the competition – Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, West Virginia, Tennessee and Alabama.

“Our members love to perform and they love to compete,” said event spokeswoman Kristie Clark. “Every spring, Harmony Heartland Region 4 holds a chorus and quartet competition. This is a time for quartets and choruses from throughout the region to come together for the purpose of singing for one another, getting constructive feedback from a panel of international judges, and especially to see old friends.”

The following Harmony Heartland Region 4 events take place this week at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center and the Cincinnati Marriott at RiverCenter, directly across RiverCenter Boulevard from the Convention Center:

  • Friday, April 13, 11:15 a.m. the Mass Sing! featuring hundreds of singers; large hallway outside the doors to the main convention floor.
  • Friday, April 13, noon. Quartet Contest begins, Event Center I.
  • Friday, April 13, 8:45 p.m. to 11 p.m., Chorus Rehearsals, Event Center I.
  • Saturday, April 14, 8 a.m. to 12:55 p.m., Chorus Rehearsals, Event Center I.
  • Saturday, April 14, 6:30 p.m. to midnight, Marriott Covington Ballroom III; five choruses – about 200 singers – will be celebrating the convention results.

The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories are invited to travel to international competitions, which are held in selected cities each fall.
