Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball coach John Brannen is one of six people to be inducted into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony that begins 1 p.m. Wednesday at Villa Hills Civic Club.

This will be the last induction ceremony until next September. The guest speaker will be former Cincinnati Bengal quarterback Ken Anderson. There will be food and drinks for new inductees and past members after the ceremony. The public is invited.
Brannen completed his third season at NKU in March. His teams have compiled a 55-42 record, finishing first in the 2018 Horizon League regular-season standings and winning the 2017 league tournament. The Newport Central Catholic High School graduate played college basketball at Marshall University and pro basketball in Europe before beginning his coaching career.
The other Hall of Fame inductees on Wednesday will be:
Bob Haake — Played football and baseball at Holmes and was a member of some of the area’s top men’s slow-pitch softball teams during the 1960s.
Allyson Heger — Placed third in the state in girls 1-meter diving three times during her career at Holmes and she went on to coach diving on the high school level for 22 years.
Al Rust — Coached volleyball and softball at Scott and was the high school’s athletic director for 13 years. In softball, his teams won more than 300 games and two regional titles.
Don Von Hoene — Played basketball at Covington Catholic and Villa Madonna College before developing an interest in tennis and he has played that sport for almost 50 years.
Greg Von Hoene — After earning two varsity letters in basketball at Covington Catholic, he was a starting guard on Northern Kentucky University teams for three seasons.
