KFTC hosts meet and greet with candidates for Covington City Commission at Roebling Point Books

Northern Kentucky chapter of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth has scheduled a Meet and Greet with the candidates for Covington City Commission, Coffee With Candidates.

The candidates for Covington City Commission have been invited to join residents at Roebling Point Books and Coffee on April 21, to meet with voters one-on-one. Members of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth will be on hand to help register voters ahead of Monday’s Kentucky voter registration deadline, as well as to talk more about the organizations work.

The event will last from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., and members hope it will help people bring up the issues they are concerned about. Steering Committee Representative Amy Copelin brought up the concerns around a cluster of HIV and hepatitis C cases in Northern Kentucky, and expressed concern around the fact that the new mobile clinic will likely not be able to hand out condoms.

Rachel Newton said that many of her friends ask her who to vote for, and that, “events like this are so helpful in allowing voters to make their own decisions. It allows for dialogue and discussion with voters instead of rehearsed debates.”

Member Paul Schwartz said he hoped everyone could attend an event like this one, to help remove some of the intimidation folks feel around people running for office. “You learn that candidates are really approachable people, but also that they need to learn from you about what is happening in your community.”

Most of the candidates for City Commission have indicated that they will be able to attend, however one candidate, Del Shawn Renee Hayes, will be out of town due to a prior commitment.

All of the candidates have responded to Kentuckians For The Commonwealth forthcoming candidate survey, which will be available online at both www.KentuckyElection.org and www.KFTC.org.
