Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky schedules “Big Dig’ to introduce youth to industry

The Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky has announced its latest public event; The Big Dig, presented by Riegler Blacktop and Dudley Construction.

“The Big Dig is designed to introduce youth of any age to our industry,” said Brian Miller, executive vice president of the trade association.  “We have the strongest workforce development program of any builders association in the nation and wonderful relationships with our education partners in the community.  Now is the right time to launch a major event and make a big splash with The Big Dig.

The Big Dig takes place at the Boone County Fairgrounds, 5819 Idlewild Roan in Burlington, on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The cost to attend is $5 per person.  Toddlers three and under are free.  Event partners include Riegler Blacktop, Dudley Construction, Taylor Bros, Donato’s, Florida Tile, Kelly Bros, ABC Supply, Helmer Plumbing, and Martin Marietta.

The Big Dig will feature a dozen or more heavy equipment machines that visitors can actually run under the supervision of trained operators. Huge hauling trucks, bulldozers, skid steers, excavators, dump trucks, boom trucks, concrete mixer trucks, and other machinery will be on site.  Hands on construction experiences will fill the covered pavilion where you can hammer, cut, pull, install, bend and mortar real materials used in construction. At the Big Dig you can get as dirty as you wish.

Donato’s Pizza and other food and beverage vendors will be on site, as well as Kona Ice, so attendees can attend as long as they like.

Fun activities are available for toddlers aged 3 and under.  Prizes and takeaways will be available to young attendees. A raffle for a Rolly CAT Backhoe Loader Tractor pedal car will take place, to benefit the Enzweiler Building Institute, the association’s adult evening post-secondary trade school.

The Big Dig is part of the Northern Kentucky Regional Construction Partnership that received a Kentucky Work Ready Skills Initiative funding award.
